Keap supports PayPal payments, and you need a PayPal Business account to connect. Before changing your setup, confirm which Keap product you use and how customers currently pay. See the official connection guidance.

Connecting the processor is one part of the work. You also need to check what happens to the customer's record, receipt and onboarding after a payment.

Connect using the guidance for your account

The current support guide directs you to Settings, then Products, payments and invoicing, where you can connect PayPal and complete authorization. Follow the official instructions for your account. If your interface differs, confirm the right route with support. Review your default processor afterwards: the support guide notes that connecting PayPal Commerce makes PayPal the default credit card processor, and it explains how to change this if you intend to keep another processor as your default. Read the setup instructions.

Map what should happen after a purchase

Before testing, write down the expected journey, and for each step note which tool is responsible. That gives you a way to investigate a failure without changing unrelated settings.

    • ●1. The customer completes checkout.
    • ●2. The payment and order are recorded in the appropriate systems.
    • ●3. The purchase is associated with the correct contact.
    • ●4. The customer receives the intended confirmation.
    • ●5. The agreed onboarding or fulfilment process begins.

    Check the full journey

Use the testing method your setup supports. If a live transaction is necessary, agree on the amount and how it will be reconciled before proceeding. Record the results, including any manual steps. A documented exception is easier for your team to handle than an assumption nobody has checked.

    • ●Payment records: compare the transaction reference, amount, currency and status across the relevant systems.
    • ●Contact matching: check that the purchase is attached to the intended customer record.
    • ●Confirmation messages: record which tools send messages and what each message contains. Review the purpose of a notification before disabling it.
    • ●Onboarding: confirm that the intended workflow starts after the appropriate payment event, rather than after a button click or form submission.
    • ●Unsuccessful purchases: review how incomplete, cancelled or failed payments are handled. Do not assume they follow the successful-payment path.
    • ●Refunds and recurring payments: if these are part of your offer, include their expected system behaviour in your test plan.

Payment succeeded, but onboarding did not start?

Trace the same purchase through each system. Start with its transaction reference and customer record, then inspect the event or condition that should start onboarding. Review any integration logs available for that handoff. Avoid charging the customer again or rebuilding the whole workflow before you have located the missing step.

    Need help tracing the problem?

I can help review how your Keap account, payment setup and onboarding fit together. Send your Keap version, the checkout tool you use and a description of the step that failed. Do not include passwords or payment card details. Explore Keap integration support or discuss your setup.

    FAQ

Yes. Keap's official guidance requires a PayPal Business account. Confirm which Keap product you use before you start, because the route through the settings can differ.

The support guide notes that connecting PayPal Commerce makes PayPal the default credit card processor, and it explains how to change the default if you intend to keep another processor. Check the setting after you connect.

Trace that one purchase through each system by its transaction reference and customer record, then inspect the event or condition that should start onboarding and any integration logs for that handoff. Find the missing step before changing anything else.
