Teachable + Flodesk: Sync Students into Beautiful Email Sequences

The Zapier setup, segmentation logic, and the refund flow most creators forget to build.

Teachable is great for hosting courses. Flodesk is great for sending email that looks like you sent it. I have not found a native connection between them, which is why I get asked about this integration so often.

This is the setup I use for clients, segmentation included.

The connection: Zapier in the middle

You will need a Zapier account. Check Zapier's current plan page for whether filters and paths are included on your tier, because the segmentation below uses them. The trigger and action names below are as the apps labelled them when I wrote this; confirm the current list in Zapier before building.

    The base Zap:

    • ●Trigger: a new enrollment in Teachable
    • ●Action: create or update a subscriber in Flodesk (email, first name)
    • ●Action: add the subscriber to a Flodesk segment (the course-specific one)

Segmentation: do this before you start

Inside Flodesk, create segments before you build the Zap. At minimum:

    • ●One segment per paid course
    • ●One segment for free leads or freebie downloads
    • ●One segment for refunded or churned students
    • ●One general 'all students' segment for broadcasts

Segments in Flodesk are how every workflow knows who to email. Get the segments right and the rest is easy.

    Trigger workflows on course completion

Teachable's completion trigger is not available on every plan, so check the current Zapier trigger list and the plan requirement before you build around it. If it is available, use it to start a Flodesk workflow that thanks the student, asks for a testimonial, and offers the next course. If it is not, a Teachable completion email or a weekly export of completions are the fallbacks.

    Handle refunds and churn

Build a second Zap. Trigger on Teachable's cancellation or refund event, where your plan exposes it to Zapier. Action: remove the subscriber from the paid course segment and add them to your churn segment.

The point is that refunded students stop getting paid-customer emails. That removes one reason for them to mark you as spam. It is not a guarantee about deliverability, and it does not replace honouring unsubscribes.

Check the supported route before building

Confirm the current trigger, action and account requirements in the platform's official documentation. Map the required fields and define what should happen for a successful event, a missing value, a duplicate event and a failed handoff. Test the agreed paths using an appropriate test method, then document the result and who will review exceptions.

    FAQ

I have not found a native Teachable to Flodesk connection listed by either platform. Check both integration directories before you build, since that can change. Otherwise you connect them through Zapier, Make, or Pabbly Connect. Zapier is the one I use for clients.

Use Zapier with a Teachable new enrollment trigger and a Flodesk create or update subscriber action. Map the email and name fields, then add the subscriber to the Flodesk segment for the course they enrolled in. Confirm the current trigger and action names in Zapier's app listings, since they change between app versions.

Create one Flodesk segment per course or per stage of customer (free student, paid student, refunded). In your Zap, after the Teachable trigger, add a Filter or Path step that checks the course name, then route each path to add the subscriber to the matching segment.

Only if the Teachable app in Zapier offers a completion trigger on your Teachable plan. Check Teachable's Zapier documentation for the current trigger list and any plan requirement before you design the workflow around it. If it is available, it can start a Flodesk workflow for a thank-you and a next-course offer.

Add a second Zap on Teachable's cancellation or refund trigger, where your plan supports it. The Flodesk actions remove the subscriber from the paid segment and add them to a churn segment, so they stop receiving paid-customer emails. It does not undo complaints already made, and it does not replace honouring unsubscribes.
