Keap Pro vs Keap Max: Which Tier Is Right for Your Business

Keap's product names and tiers have changed more than once. Find out what you are on before you decide whether to pay for more.

Keap has sold its software under several names, including Pro, Max, Ultimate and Max Classic, the former Infusionsoft. What each tier included, and whether it is still sold under that name, has changed over time. Before you compare tiers, confirm what your account is and what Keap offers today, on Keap's own pricing page or with your account manager. Last reviewed 5 September 2026. No prices are listed here because they would be out of date.

This is the review I run when a client says 'we're on Pro, should we upgrade?' or 'we bought Max and we only use a fraction of it'.

Find out which Keap product you are on

The name on the pricing page is not always the name on your invoice.

    • ●Open your billing or account settings and note the product name, the contact tier and the user count on the latest invoice.
    • ●Look at the automation tool. A campaign builder with a drag-and-drop canvas points to Max Classic (Infusionsoft). Easy Automations with a simpler builder point to the newer Keap product line.
    • ●Note the add-ons on the invoice: extra contacts, extra users, SMS, phone line, dedicated sending domain.
    • ●If any of that is unclear, ask Keap support to confirm the product and tier in writing before you plan a change.

Features that have separated the tiers

These are the features that have historically been the reason to move up a tier. Which tier includes each one today is a question for the current pricing page, not for this article.

    • ●Keap Business Line: a dedicated phone number with SMS, voicemail and call tracking inside Keap.
    • ●Appointment scheduling with calendar sync.
    • ●Quotes and invoices with payment processor integration.
    • ●Automation: the basic tag-and-campaign builder, then behavioural triggers such as page visits and email engagement.
    • ●Lead scoring based on behaviour, opens, clicks, page visits and pipeline activity.
    • ●Sales analytics: reporting on opportunity stages, conversion rates and rep performance.
    • ●Promo codes and order automation.
    • ●User permissions and custom roles.
    • ●A dedicated sending IP.
    • ●Priority support.

Signals an upgrade is worth evaluating

    • ●You keep saying 'I wish I could score this lead' and your tier does not include lead scoring.
    • ●Your sales staff complain that the pipeline reporting does not answer their questions.
    • ●You run frequent promotions with different products and are managing promo codes by hand.
    • ●Several users need different access levels and keep editing each other's automations.
    • ●You have deliverability problems at a sustained high sending volume and your tier does not include a dedicated IP. Fix list hygiene and authentication first; a dedicated IP is not a substitute for either.

    Signals you should not upgrade

    • ●You have not set up the features your current tier already includes. Use what you have first.
    • ●Someone told you the higher tier has 'better automation'. The difference has been lead scoring, triggers and reporting, not raw automation power. Check the current feature comparison to see what your tier lacks.
    • ●Your support tickets are slow. Fix the underlying account hygiene before paying for priority support.

    How to evaluate an upgrade

    • ●List the features you use today and the ones you want. Mark which of the wanted ones your current tier already has but you have not set up.
    • ●Ask Keap for the current price of your tier and the next one at your contact count and user count, including every add-on you use.
    • ●Ask what changes on a downgrade: which features switch off, and whether any data or automations are affected.
    • ●Cost the setup work for the new features. A feature you pay for and never configure is a cost, not an upgrade.
    • ●Set a review date to check whether the new features are in use.

What I see on the ground

A lot of accounts overbuy. They go straight to the higher tier because the sales call showed the lead scoring demo, then never set up scoring. Months later they are paying the premium for base-tier usage. If you are at this point, the right move is usually to confirm with Keap what a downgrade involves, then put the savings into setting up the campaigns you have.

    FAQ

Ask Keap. Upgrades have been immediate. A downgrade has required you to stop using features the lower tier does not include, such as lead scoring or tier-only automations, before it takes effect. Confirm the current rules with support before you rely on them.

Only if you will use what it adds. A solo business that does not need lead scoring or sales analytics usually gets more from setting up the base tier well. Compare the feature list against your own list, not against a business type.

Keap Max Classic is the legacy Infusionsoft product. It has a different campaign builder and features the newer Keap line has not had, especially around campaign branching, ecommerce and affiliate programs. It is a different product, not a tier. Check with Keap whether it is available to new accounts before you plan around it.

Yes. As part of the audit phase of any retainer or one-off audit, I tell you which product and tier you are on, which features you use, and whether a change is worth the cost.

Ask Keap whether that path is available first. If it is, it is a real migration with rebuilding involved, because Max Classic uses a different campaign engine. A migration quote should identify the records and configuration in scope, the cleanup needed beforehand, field mapping, workflow rebuilding, integration work, testing and handover, and explain any period when both systems need to remain available.
